From the moment I arrived, I knew their Chippewa Retreat Resort wedding was going to be something special. I got to travel up north and turn the whole thing into a little weekend getaway, and since the couple booked cabins for all of their vendors, it instantly felt warm and welcoming. I even grabbed dinner with their planner, Chastity, the night before, which made Saturday feel extra exciting and full of good energy.
A Wedding Rooted in Nostalgia and Nature
Sydney grew up in Northern Wisconsin and spent her summers on the lake, so choosing Chippewa Retreat Resort for their wedding was more than just picking a venue. It felt like home. These two spend so much time up north together and wanted their wedding to feel nostalgic and personal and they completely achieved that. Towering pines, sparkling water, cozy cabins, and this peaceful atmosphere that wraps around you the second you arrive.
They told me they wanted the day to feel like togetherness, connection to nature, and a sense of calm. That’s exactly how it felt from start to finish.
Florals, Chandeliers, and the Prettiest Details
The florals were unreal. Sydney had been so excited about their floral chandeliers and Tasha from Wanderwild Floral brought that vision to life effortlessly. The whole space felt soft and organic, like everything belonged there naturally.
Their paper goods were printed on linen, which added the sweetest texture, tying that nature-inspired vibe into every detail. And then cocktail hour by the pool happened… and wow, it was such a vibe. Bright blue water, happy chatter, drinks in hand. It felt like a summer vacation mixed with a wedding celebration in the best way.
Of course, I had to grab them for a few portraits by the pool before wandering down to the lake for some sunset love. The light, the reflections, the quiet of the water… magic.
A Day Filled With Intention
Everything about this day was chosen with heart. They included a ring-warming ceremony so their guests could participate in such a meaningful way, and instead of a sweetheart table, they sat among their family and friends. They wanted to be present and close to the people they love most. I honestly adored that.
And then one detail I can’t forget:
Grant’s favorite part of planning was the cake tasting.
He still talks about it. (I fully support this energy.)
They told me how grateful they were for their vendor team and how building a group they trusted made the whole process feel effortless. You could feel that trust in how calm and joyful the entire day was.
Sunset at the Lake
Before the night picked up again, we slipped down to the lake for a few final portraits. Soft light, quiet water, and this moment that felt like the perfect summary of everything they hoped their wedding would be. A little nostalgic, a little magical, completely them.
